HyMasa LLC is a limited liability corporation founded in 2022 by Byron Birkedahl after identifying a key need in the aviation industry for design, analytics, safety and certification experience especially given the renaissance of innovative new aircraft that will enter the market in the next few years. The experience includes:
- 41+ years of design, review, analysis, product strategy, and certification of avionics, flight controls and aircraft systems
- Former Senior Chief Engineer & Fellow at a fortune 100 aerospace company for AAM/UAM/UAS and Next Generation Avionics for all aircraft markets
- Created models and simulation of EVTOL dynamics, propulsion, flight controls and sensors for electronic system design analysis and real time simulator demonstrations
- Extensive experience interfacing with the FAA, EASA and other cert agencies
- Developed new product strategies and architectures for next generation avionics
- Created and approved safety analyses per ARP 4761
- Developed requirements strategies for efficiently complying with ARP 4754a
- Advisor to FAA on Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) certification regulatory documents (AC 20-145, TSO C-153); DO-297 contributing author
- Developed control laws for autopilots and flight directors certified on numerous aircraft
- Flight test engineer on several aircraft programs
